Position Summary: LA Voice is seeking a Development Coordinator to support our efforts to secure more than $3.5 million dollars annually for the fulfillment of LA Voice’s mission. The Development Coordinator will play a key role alongside the Development Director in maintaining, growing and diversifying LA Voice’s funding base for social change. Candidates should be prepared to implement tried and true fundraising strategies as well as modeling and experimenting with innovative approaches. This position reports to the Development Director, but works closely with all members of the staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who wants to utilize their development skills as a part of a growing organization making real positive, systemic change in Los Angeles.
Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):
- Work with our grant writing consultancy to prepare proposals, reports, email updates, collateral material, and other documents that are compelling and responsive to funder interests. This includes drafting, editing, formatting, and assembling required materials.
- Manage funder and donor data, ensuring our fundraising efforts are well tracked to maximize success
- Research current and prospective foundations and corporations, and prepare briefing materials to equip staff for meetings with funders
- Support the execution of various fundraising campaigns, including events, digital, mailings and publications throughout the year
- Implement donor retention and acknowledgement efforts
- Support the management of fundraising events, including our annual fundraiser, #VoiceRaise
- Other duties as assigned, including administrative support for senior staff relating to fundraising efforts
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years professional experience in development or related field in a nonprofit and/or social-change environment
- Track record of strong collaboration with others: able to “manage up” and with peers, and reliably get things done.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a strong preference for grant writing experience. Can produce excellent writing on short deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to project manage and manage one’s own priorities and work stream.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Able and willing to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work
- Cultural competence to support and promote a multi-racial, interfaith environment
Other possible qualifications:
- Experience with donor management software
- Experience with marketing, communications or design
- Spanish or other relevant second language fluency
- Experience with community organizing
- A bachelor’s degree combined with some form of ongoing education--a Master’s Degree, writing courses, fundraising certificate, e.g.
Compensation
- This is a full-time, salaried position.
- The job includes regular evening work and some weekend work.
- Salary is competitive for the region and based on experience and demonstrated capacities, in a range from $60,000-$85,000. LA Voice’s compensation structure was developed from best practices in equitable and transparent compensation, and includes a generous benefits package including matching 401(k); 15 days paid vacation increasing to 20 after three years of service and 25 after five years (plus holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year); and medical, dental, and vision insurance.
